Always <span style="font-weight:bold"><span style="color:blue">BACKUP the existing firmware</span></span> of your player before attempting to update the firmware on your player. Updating your player with the wrong or incorrect firmware will result in a <span style="font-weight:bold"><span style="color:red">DEAD PLAYER</span></span> and it not booting up at all! Always be sure that you use the <span style="font-weight:bold"><span style="text-decoration:underline">correct firmware</span></span> for your player only.
Updating your firmware will NOT provide you with any extra features. It's really intended as a resource and 'backup' should the firmware on your player becomes corrupt.
Here are the instructions for updating the firmware on your player:
1. Download and install the
AMV Convert Tool 3.68 (MP3 Player Utilities 3.68) or the
AMV Convert Tool 3.57 (MP3 Player Utilities 3.57) or the
AMV Convert Tool 3.06 (MP3 Player Utilities 3.06).
For more recent players you can try the newest MP3 Player Utilities from --> [Downloads] link on the left hand side menu bar, then choose [Tools] then [<a href=http://www.mympxplayer.org/mp3-player-utilities-dc44.html>

2. Connect your player to your computer using the USB cable. Make sure that Windows detects your player and allocates a drive letter to is through Windows Explorer. This is very important, if Windows can't detect your player when plugged in, you won't be able to do the firmware update.
3. Now click on [Start] --> [Programs] --> [MP3 Player Utilities 3.68] (or whatever version you have installed) --> "<span style="font-weight:bold">MP3 Player Upgrade Tool</span>".
4. Click on the "<span style="font-weight:bold">Select new firmware file</span>" button.
5. Choose your new firmware file (.bin or .fw) and click on the [<span style="font-weight:bold">Open</span>] button.
6. Now click on the "<span style="font-weight:bold">Begin upgrading</span>" button.
7. You will now see a progress bar and a message saying "Writing the firmware data to the device".
8. During updating, your computer will look like it's 'hung' for a few seconds, don't worry, just let it do it's thing and wait for the "<span style="font-weight:bold">Upgrade is success</span>" message like the one below.
NOTE: <span style="font-weight:bold"><span style="color:red">NEVER</span> disconnect or pull the USB cable</span> out of your MP3/MP4 player during a firmware upgrade! This will corrupt the firmware and you will have to use a recovery process to fix it (very long and lengthy and involves taking the player apart).
Let the firmware upgrade process finish.
Once it finishes, it will <span style="text-decoration:underline">automatically restart your MP3/MP4 player</span> and just leave it USB connected to the computer until it's fully rebooted and Windows detects your MPx player again.
