It sounds to me like a codec issue, EG lacking current compress/ decompress 'codecs'. Try this:
1- google and download MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC. Install it. reboot. Go to preferences and set file associations.....
2 - download amvtools from here:

3- install ver. 4.00
4 - you should try the codec pack available in the downloads section here:
http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...file&file_id=6
after trying the above steps without success (if it does not work). MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC should have most / all of the codecs already. you can run into trouble w/ too many codecs installed.
