When you download your players firmware to a dump.bin file it does not contain all the files needed for you player to work a few are not extracted. So if the files not extracted are replaced with copies that are not compatible with your player then your extracted firmware is not going to fix this. Some players come with a full copy of firmware on the CD but not many.
Also a really bad firmware upgrade can leave your player in a state where Windows will not recognise the device and so you can not re-flash it.
the only way you can be completely sure is to open your player and check serial and component numbers and then find the firmware specific to your player, not an easy task I'm afraid.
