Re: How would you rate your mp4 player?
Here’s my ratings
• Looks – 8.5
• Functionality – 6
• Reliability - 7
• Price – 9.5
I’ve had two 1GB MP4 players now and I’d rate them close to the same. The first was a 1.5” screen with the built in speakers, and knobby thumb control button. The second was a 1.8” screen thin “nano” looking one.
Both look pretty good and are a quite good value for the price. But both have their own weaknesses or annoyances, mostly software related.
The 1.5” featured 4 games which was a nice bonus, and I liked the control button once I got used to it I could change volume and track by just feeling for the knob button through my jacket material. My biggest beef with this player was the lack of file browsing in mp3 player mode and taking around 3 seconds to skip track, it does a little fade in/out thing as well that’s unnecessary. The AMV software has a buggy install and some setting didn’t work with my player but it converted fast and could batch process multiple files.
The 1.8” has a nicer looking MP3 player screen and features a file browser. However I don’t like the buttons, there is no touch reference and it’s easy to press the wrong button. On top of that there are less buttons than the 1.5” had so more function is crammed into the buttons by using quick or long taps. I still have no Idea how to control the volume in video player!! REC will increase but not decrease volume. Controls are very awkward, sometimes menu makes a selection, sometimes it’s play, God only knows why they put a record button because to record FM radio it’s the play button!! I can only get it to record radio at 8Kbits. The SMV tool is so bloody slow its absurd and no batch mode.
Both have annoying “hello / goodbye” screens that I could do without. Both have crappy frame rates on their video format AMV/SMV and to say they are really MP4 players at all is kind of false advertising as far as I’m concerned.
All complaints aside they are neat little rigs and I can’t buy a 1GB thumbdrive around here for less than one of these so that’s why I thing they are good value for price and if someone could just clean up the software they would be so much better.
