Don't be too nervous about modifying your firmware yourself. Just as long as it's YOUR firmware for YOUR player you're modifying, it should be fine. I've modified a lot of players already and reskinned them. But I always use my OWN firmware and no one elses.
Make sure you also have a BACKUP of your firmware as well just in case you made some changes you didn't want to go back to it originally.
Also, try NOT to change any settings relating to "FM Radio". It might actually cause your more problems. I know I tried to change the FM settings using Firmware Modifier to "enable" (even though it was), and when I did, it removed "Games" from my main menu.
