I agree.
When people download firmware from this site, they are prompted with the "warning, please backup your firmware" and "updating your firmware will not give you new features" warning messages. People have to click on "accept" to download the firmware file.
So even though they have been warned, they still proceed to download it and upgrade the firmware on their player regardless. So I guess even if you put a warning message on the firmware update tool, there will be people who will ignore it.
I also believe there should be a way to 'detect' if the firmware you use is incorrect for your player. Much like the major brand of computer manufacturers who have this feature built in when you try to update the BIOS on a computer.
I think for starters, we need to educate users and warn them about incorrect firmware updates.
