...in order for the short ciruit to work, current must flow through the pins when you cross touch them. So if you disconnect the battery, then you need to keep the pins cross touched while you connect to the usb.
I suppose removing the battery is recommended by s1mp3.org to make the procedure less risky (as touching the wrong pins by mistake can really send the player to heaven)...but for me, leaving the battery on made the task easier. Just have to make sure to steadily touch the correct pins. :wink:
