SMART, are you using windows xp? Let me know if you're using an older version of windows. Older versions may require the driver to be reinstalled manually (firmware upgrades may change the identity of the player so windows would think it's a new device). So your computer may require addtional driver files to reinstall depending on the firmware you last upgraded your player with.
But if you're using xp, then reinstalling the driver wouldn't be a problem, it will be taken care of automatically.
If possible, try using a different computer.
But let me know if you have xp or older verison.
