Default Re: AMV conversion

One thing I noticed from the log files of Pocket DivX Encoder was it was somehow executing "./mencoder.exe" even though that program was not in the Windows XP path. This tells me that the programmers have somehow embedded some version of mencoder.exe within their own EXE file, possibly as a fake RAM disk (like many Linux distributions). This could cause memory fragmentation on some PCs.

I never experienced the DISK FULL problem and I only have 512MB on my Windows XP conversion PC.

To help diagnose the problem, perhaps you should provide this info:

(1) Which Windows version you are running
(2) How many MB of RAM on your PC
(3) What CPU in your PC
(4) How much disk space left on your C: drive
(5) Path to where you save your Pocket DivX Encoder output file

BTW, never make AMV conversion files directly to your chiPod (the files will be too fragmented). Always copy from hard disk to chiPod.

As a pre-convertor program alternative, try mencoder264 freeware:

It seems slower than Pocket DivX Encoder but ultimately produces slightly better quality AVI-to-AMV files. The downside is that I have not found a way to increase color saturation, brightness, contrast, etc. although it does have an optional mencoder parameters (none documented) field.
