A rar file is like a zip file. Download winrar (google it), install the program and then extract the file.
You will get a *.bin file, this is the firmware file, use the firmware updating software to install it.
Remember to backup the firmware that is on your player, otherwise you could end up with a dead player if the new firmware doesn't work with your player.
