this is right: you need to work around the colors. in your case, it would have been interesting to know what the original graphic for the cursor bar looked like. i am hoping you made a back-up of your FW before replacing any images, right? :wink:
based on this image, you can figure out what you can do. for example, you can create your own cursor bar which uses the blue-green in the gradient. this will help it merge better with the background color of your text.
it's hard to do in ascii, but assuming the background color of the text is a solid dark blue color, you could do this (each line below represents 1 pixel height for a cursor graphic which is 12 pixels high):
