So you meant that you used the 1st earphone output and connectted it to the 2nd earphone output?

Try using another set of earphones, also does the speaker still have sound?

If all these do not work, high chance that some components (most probably a capacitor) might have blown in your player. I'm not sure about the schematic layout of your player. But if i'm not wrong, there would be 2 lines coming out from the processor/audio amplifier in parallel to provide the sound. By "shorting" like what you did, probably caused a feedback current to the processor or audio amplifier and most cases would blow up the capacitor that is connected between the amplifier and audio socket.

Not sure how to go about solving this. Would be a very tedious process to locate the damaged components. Either you could try locate the damaged components or get someone to help you with this.
