Scarlett,

It sounds like your player needs to be formatted. However, you said you can't format it from your computer, so here's something else to try:

1. Connect your player into ANOTHER USB port instead. See if you computer recognises it and let's you format it.

2. Try ANOTHER COMPUTER if Step #1 above doesn't work. It might be detectable on another computer instead.

3. Try pressing the [on/off] switch to the "off" position. Leave it off for awhile then switch it "on" again. Then connect your player and see if your computer detects it.

Try those and let us know of the result.
