snab , what program did you use to format the player? If you use the Disk Tools and got an error, setting the slider in the Partition & Encrypt tab to max (right) format it, then set it to min (left) and format it again.
Or else, right click on My Computer >> Manage >> Storage >> Disk Management. Then select the player's drive, right click and chose Format. You might want to select FAT file system to format it.
To darken the screen on your player, go to System >> LCD Set >> Darkle, there you can set in seconds, the amount of idle time before the screen darkens.

Got as far as the partitioning bit and found that windows wouldn't do it (grr bloody windows) so used the mp3/4 player software to finsih partitioning and it completed OK.
The player is only a 2GB player advertised as 4GB.
I sent the following mail to the seller

Hi

Can you answer some questions?

Why does the LCD screen not darken whilst the player is playing this is very annoying especially at night!!

I have also been doing some research on this player.....

Why have you advertised this player as a 4GB player when clearly it is only a 2GB player. I uploaded 4GB of music to it after receiving it and find that half of it is corrupt when trying to play it. The machine only has one 2GB chip in it.
What are you willing to do to rectify the problem, I have paid for what I believed to be a 4GB player but have received half that are you willing to refund half of my payment? Can I claim a full refund and you can have your defective/ hacked equipment back?
Please reply with your reasoning for the above and a possible solution.

because the 4GB mp4 is made of 2GB+2GB memory flash
it maybe one of 2GB flash is faulty ,so it only show 2GB space left

I have now filed a not as described action via paypal and am awaiting the outcome
