dsmith, You might be able to overcome the problem with a bit of basic maintanenece.
Download s1fwx HERE and using this guide HERE extract and repair your players firmware.
Then using the MP3 Disk Tool which is part of the MP3 Utilities suite format the player. Finally reload your repaired firmware back to your player using the MP3 Upgrade Tool. Now try some amv files on your player.
