When i got my dead player, it was in the same situation. (flash once when turn on, then nothing)
The dead player recovery guide solved my problem, i think you have to check it out again. Shorting the memory chip is sometimes doesnt successfull at the first try, and dont forget, that the player have to be turned on, when you ar making the short circuit! When its successfull, windows detects it in a second as an adfu device. If that happend, you are on the finish line
