Betz, Try cutting a few pieces of card about the same size as your memory chip and layer them on top of the chip. You need enough layers so that when you close the player the card touches the case and pressure is put on the chip, this should fix the problem if you have any poor pin connections.
You could also try uninstalling Mp3 player utilities and installing a different version as some times the update app can get hung.
Try also shorting the chip from side to side across the chip.
If your player is being detected as a (HS) device then it is using one of the newer chipsets that use the 9.0. series firmware. If it is 9.0.48 or higher you will not be able to recover your player at present as there are no tools or firmware for these versions at the moment unless a copy of the firmware is on the mini CD that came with your player.
