katana , are you refering to mAh or mA? As there is very significant difference between these 2 units.
Generally batteries only have the voltage and mAh ratings printed on the outside.

If it is mAh, the higher the better. The higher it goes, the longer your battery would last. Think of it as the capacity.

If it is mA, leave it alone. if your original battery was 250mA and you put a 500mA battery, you might just fry your player.
