Default Re: Don't buy from "Colordrives"

I got this player 3 days ago.
Click the image to open in full size.
It's my first player.

I got it on Ebay from
eBay My World: colordrives.

I had bought an unrelated item from them before with no problem. The seller was selling about
45 mp4 players a day for at least the previous 2 weeks. (they also sell the pen drive ones too).

I checked the feedback, and found that they had been sold for at least 3 months.
There were few complaints about the players and I don't recall anyone saying that they got a
memory hacked one, however I had never heard of that until I found this forum.
I just now went back to check the feedback again.

Prior to Dec-20-06 No major complaints about players.
Dec-20-06 00:10 This is a big piece of sh*t, it didnt work at all, now my bro hates me, thanx
Dec-21-06 07:27 Product does not work. Have asked for tech support 4 times with no responses.

Note: Dec-22-06 The day I originally checked feedback and bought my player.

Dec-27-06 14:13 Difficult to operate! Can't download any music on it. Useless! Seller didnt care
Dec-31-06 07:34 Seller is good, but Mp4 player is not, difficult to use, some files get corupted
Dec-31-06 11:16 Junk. Broke less than one week after Christmas.
Dec-31-06 11:52 got used item, FAILED in 1 hour, formats to 450MB, not 1 GByte! BAD BAD BAD BAD
Dec-31-06 12:53 had the worst buying experience ever and the product doesnt even work.

I think people are just starting to find out that they are screwed. Maybe they just started to
get a batch of hacked ones. Or maybe they are hacking them on their own?
All the complaints were about the exact same style of player and all but one of them was black in color.

The "formats to 450mb" has to be hacked. I was able to get my 1gig to format to 469mb.
The other feedback could also be related to drive hacking.

My player has a 1GB sticker on the back.

Wonder how many buyers left positive feedback before they loaded enough files on it and finally
figured out something wasn't right.

I contacted those buyers I listed above right after posting this and directed them here.
I might leave neg feedback with a link to here.

I also saw some that had problems with the pen drive players, but none of them specifically said that
the problem was a hack.

Some more bad news:
Good luck getting a replacement or refund from this seller. Looking at feedback, few ever get
things resolved with this seller. Some return the player and get no replacement or refund.

The firmware 9.0.48 is not extractable on my player (no tool for it yet) so I don't expect that the
other players like it would be any different.

If it has been memory hacked, it really has much less memory than was claimed or that windows or
the player will show.

Some software that came on the cd with the player doesn't work.

The good news is:
Some buyers do get refunds from Paypal.

I didn't see the seller leaving negative feedback if the buyer left negative feedback.
In fact, seller never left any feedback.

Edit 01-12-07 Colordrives has been leaving Neg. feedback. Guess they were just too busy before to do it.

Working software can be found on this forum.

If your player starts up, there is a good chance you can get it to work correctly by removing the memory hack.

You didn't pay $20 for shipping.

You are not alone. A lot of dealers are selling rip-u-off players.

Check out this forum and register. This is the best place I've found for help and support for
these types of players.

Tell others that colordrives is selling crap players. Post your updates here.

At this time, I don't plan on trying to get a refund or new player. Paid $29.51 for it (plus shipping).
I'm afraid that if I send it back, they will never send a replacement or it will just be another hack player.
