its the contrast..in order to repair that..go to the system menu..if you dont memorize the menus..you can go to your manual or you may at least see an image at the black screen by changing the viewing angle..goodluck

or plug your usb on the pc and open the mp3 upgrade utility program which came from the CD of your player and CLOSE the program..in doing so, the mp3 will reboot its power(the computer will not recognize the drive for a few seconds then it will again) and the said program will reset all of mp3's settings back to factory settings(including the contrast),..but dont worry the data inside the player wont be lost/...by the way..the program is for upgrading..no matter what dont upgrade your player or it may destroy your player...just close the program after opening it..and one more..you cannot open the program without plugging your mp3 player..
