There is no harm of playing the little trick of "say you have got the player checked out from local mp3 player store", as even if you really did send it to be checked, it will definitely be 2GB.
Besides, the paypal dispute resolution will be 30 days from the day you open a dispute. During these 30days, paypal will not interfere. They only come into the picture if you escalate to a claim within the 30days.
So if they decide to refund you the difference, you save the trouble and money of checking it. And in most cases they will, even selling at £13, they probably made £5-6 out of it.
