Default Re: speech sync in video

I've found, on occasion, something similar. Sometimes one of the VOB files from a ripped DVD will become unsynched during the conversion process. In my case this has occurred when going from VOB to mpeg1 using SUPER converter prior to processing with Virtual DUB. I don't know why this is.

I have managed to make adjustments by processing twice with VDub. The first time I adjust video and audio characteristics such as cropping, sharpness, brightness, volume,..., and cut the video into small segments using the Save Segmented AVI option under the File menu. Then I process the segments a second time using VDub and adjusting only the audio track using the Audio Skew Correction that is found in the Interleaving dialogue box under the Audio menu.

Unfortunately, this is very labour intensive. I had to adjust each video segment separately as the audio became more unsynched throughout the video so couldn't apply a single delay correction for the whole thing.

In future in cases like this, rather than playing with a screwy ripped VOB file, I'll record from my DVD player to computer using my Hauppauge input device and then process the recorded version for MP4 use.

Incidentally, when testing the offending VOB file, I processed it along with the other files back on to a DVD using DVD Shrink. The corresponding episode ended up with audio synchronization problems even though the VOB file played fine on my computer.
