Update : Memory issues with 2GB Osmium player
Some progress on the problem I reported with the 2GB Osmium that I bought from Uxcell just before Christmas.
First a recap of the story so far:
Bought the player, tracked and delivered efficiently, good service from Uxcell. Looking good.
It worked well and seemed OK, with limited use, some odd crashes, but then showed repeatable problems when filling it up and saving over about 230Megabytes of files. Analysis showed it was really 256Megabytes made to look like like 2GBytes as had/has been happening a lot on eBay.
But it was a great little player, worked well after re-partitioning, I didn't want the hassle and uncertainty of returning it - even though Uxcell had been very responsive to the problem, suggesting things to try (reformatting) and asking that I return it for replacement.
I have to say - I thought I'd get exactly the same back, so I wasn't keen to return it, maybe lose it etc.
Then I found this forum - and posted some info about the problem - and got a very quick response from Admin (Binh Tang) saying that experience with Uxcell was generally good and that he would get Keith Wong of Uxcell on the case to investigate.
They convinced me that the player should genuinely be 2Gbytes and that they had checked similar ones in stock and they were OK and that I should return it for investigation and replacement.
Again - Uxcell and Binh were very responsive and helpful.
I returned the Osmium on 12Jan07 with tracked delivery marked for Keith's attention.
After 2 weeks I queried Keith Wong @ Uxcell to see if it had arrived - it hadn't. It may have by now - I'm not sure, I haven't enquired again.
Keith immediatelyarranged for a replacement to be despatched anyway, and I now have an email confirming despatch with the order number and tracking number. Again - good service by Uxcell.
I am going to be REALLY interested to see how it goes, and whether the replacement gives me the 2Gbytes space that I expected and paid for.
Watch this space - I'll keep you posted!
