I haven't tried another cable because it doesn't seem to be mini-B so I don't have one. It seems a lot more like this one

I have tried a couple of machines thought and unplugging the other peripherals.
I do notice that the charging via the mains adapter for the USB leads works and shows it charging.
When I plug it into the computer it is different. It shows the hour glass then it shows a "Connect" screen. This has zzzzzzz between the computer and "Connect" and the device. Is this saying the connection is sleeping or just crazy artwork?
