Default The not so obvious things about installing firmware

THis site is great but I notice there are a few non obvious things about fixing your dead player I learned along the way . I suspect 90% of people would not persist to figure them out and just throw their clone away. Here they are:

1) All the firmware and dump files are zipped in 7-zip compression which I never heard of before. I have been using winzip for all my life. ONce you download the 7-zip compression exe I just need to right click on the files to extract. It was another site I learned about the 7-zip compressionl..

2) Dumps can not be used to recover from recovery mode . I would recover from another firmware then do it again with the dump file that did not work oringally.

3) On the list of firmwares for medium color screens I did not notice there was a 2,3,4 and 5'th page of more firmwares! I tried all on the first page and was about to give up until i noticed there were 60+ more to try!

4) I was able to fix my player using a firmware dump for a 2GB even though my player was 1GB.

Maybe this has been covered before, if not I can write it up as a knowledge base guide...
