if you have a Windows version below XP, then you need the drivers. it must have come in the CD along with the player. if it didnt, get one from here

also, it is recommended to not put a new firmware on your player as it might kill it. if you are unhappy with the appearance of the UI, go to settings and see what firmware version you have.

if it is either 3.5.37 or 3.5.35, extract and repair it.
