first: get the newest version of itunes
second: install it and plug your player. make sure "iPod" or your ipod is shown on the left side of itunes.
third: when it asks you to synchronize your player, please do so.
fourth: when the topmost bar where it shows the status of your player and it says everything is ok, start adding your music to your library by going to files=>add file to library/add folder to library(this is self explanatory). if it asks you to convert the songs into a desired file format, it is in your desire if you want to.
fifth: when its done, click on "music" on the library found on the left side of itunes and you can see the files you added on the recent step.
sixth: highlight the songs that you want to send to your player and right click
seventh: click on new play list(i think i forgot it as long as you can find a menu with a sub-options in it or arrows) and you can see your player on that sub-option, click on that option and you can see that the top bar(which i mentioned ago) is showing a process of transferring your files to your player. when its done, congratulations! you've just added music to your player.
eighth: click on the eject button somewhere on the bottom right of itunes(not safely remove hardware). when you have clicked it, make sure your ipod is not anymore shown on the left side of itunes. there, plug out your player and enjoy your player. IPOD SUCKS! CHIPOD ROCKS!!!
also, only transfer music to your player on the SAME COMPUTER. if you plan to do reverse what i said, all of the contents in your player will be erased because of the synchronization!
see? who said ipod is better than chipod?!?!?!!
