What this situation comes down to is basically lying and greed.

You quoted your father that he said "we really don't have the money right now", so why don't you just wait longer and wait until your family can afford to buy an MP4 or iPod?

Also, if you were truly serious about not upsetting your father, then you would admit that you broke your MP4 experimenting with it, and that you are sorry.

What if he found out that you sold all the cases that he bought for you just to buy a new MP4, and worse, that you lied to him?

Edit : Also, an iPod Video costs $249.99 at the cheapest, and an MP4 can cost $40 at the cheapest (decent quality), so I really don't see why he would promise you an iPod Video if your family is short of money
