Hpjunior , likely your current 2.5mm socket in the player has it's solder broken off and the spring catches inside either broken or loose.
I guess some electronics repair or DIY shops carry the 2.5mm socket. You need to look around for the same socket with the same pinouts. Would be better if you can find a 3.5mm socket with the same pinouts, so you won't need to use an adaptor. But you may need to cut the casing a little bit more to fit the 3.5mm.
