This is easy to answer...
DON'T DO IT
Unless you have a version of firmware that has been especially released for your specific player. But usually only the factory will make such a release. If you try any one elses firmware.. you will kill (brick) your player. The firmware in it is designed for that player only. Is there a 'bin' or 'fw' file on the driver cd that came with it? If there is that will be the only firmware that is compatible.
You cannot upgrade, downgrade, or otherwise use a foriegn firmware file to make your player perform 'better' or give it new functions.
