For me, it's like an 'addiction'. Always on the look out for newer models with new chipsets and firmware to see what else is availble.
I love the chipods because you can modify it easily. Also the cheap price is good. I don't feel so bad if I drop it, break it or brick it. Plus, the accessories are really cheap too. Not to mention the video playback and the flexibility of putting the files, folders I want on there the way I like it and not let iTunes do it for me.
