If you need to, back up any files that you have loaded onto the player before the format. It will not erase the firmware. Many players are hacked, but people don't realize it until it is too late.
Charging of player is best done with the usb cable. The AC adapter is known to shorten the life of the battery.
Do not overcharge the battery. You should not have to charge it for more than 2-3 hours. Leaving it plugged in for extended periods shortens the life of the battery.
Do not charge if battery temperature is below 0C.
Before disconnecting the player from the computer, hold the menu button for about a second or two or use the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the system tray. This will help prevent file and/or firmware corruption.
