Onida, If the player is working fine do not do anything to it's firmware.

You should only ever consider flashing firmware to a player if it is already 'dead'.

The words "Firmware Upgrade" only ever apply to the exact version of firmware obtained from the manufacturer, specifically for that player only and no other. It is unlikely that a manufacurer would release a new version for a specific player. Never, ever flash firmware you find on the internet to your player... even if it says it's the same version. The ONLY exception, as i've said, is if your player is already 'dead'.

You cannot magically gain extra features on a player by sending a different firmware version to it... it just doesn't work like that. You player is doing what it is made to do. There are no extra features to be gained at all. A foriegn firmware file in the latest version will just kill it.

It would be like trying to run a new GameCube game in an old 80's NES

If it's working fine then enjoy it.. it's a free player from a friend. Why mess with it?
