I had the same problem of WinXP failing to load the driver but have managed to finally load full firmware. I had not backed up my firmware before I killed my fake ipod nano it had ACT_3.5.35. If anyone has the correct bin file I would appreciate it.

Anyway right click on my computer, go to properties, then select hardware tab. click on driver signing. A window will pop up with three options. Choose "Ignore - Install the software anyway and dn't ask for my approval". You will probably also have to check "make this action the system default" .
Remember to change all these settings back once you have installed your player as an ADFU device.
