It would be really interesting to see what problems people will be having owning a unbranded china mp3 & mp4 player with mobile phone combined.

Most likely they would be programmed to scam all your credit or run your contract bill up.

PS I think you have started discussion now!
I am such a "scam victim" like you said, but I don't feel scammed at all.

I have owned a Chinese mobile phone with MP3 player, a I-Mobile 310 aka Haier Black Pearl. It looks fantastic, supports a Micro-SD card, has a standard 3.5mm plug for the headset, battery life is very good and it does not run my contract bill up, hahaha. The sound quality is very good with different settings for the equalizer. I bought it last November for 85 Euro, but the price have dropped now (July 2007) up to 45 Euro. These are prices on the SE Asian Market. I have sold it to replace it by another Chinese mobile phone, NOT because it was broken.

This is my latest Chinese mobile phone, the Wellcom W818:

This mobile phone can play MP3 as well as MP4, and real MP4 files !!! It is sold togheter with a 512mb Micro SD card that is hot swapable. The telephone has the standard button controls and also touch screen control. The stylus fits inside the telephone. Touch screen control works fast and is very convenient.
The phone has bluetooth to use with a headset or to use for data transfert. Battery life is about 5 days standby. The phone feels very solid and looks nice with the chrome metal frame on the front. Speaker volume is extremely loud. You can use any mp3 file as ringtone and set any jpg file as wallpaper. User interface is very good and clear, they use nice icons and the whole package does not look or feel cheap at all. I paid 122 Euro in SE Asia for this phone. Price on June 2007. The website from Wellcom is www.wellcommobile.com

My idea about those Chinese phones is that they improved extremely during the past year or so. Not so long time ago they were producing toy-look-a-like-mobile-phones or clones from popular well known brands. Now they have their own designs and the build quality is improved a lot.
Two names to remember for the future are Wellcom and G-net.
