Unfortunately, yes.

My Nano clone has version 9.1.50 and supports file browsing. It's somewhat lacking (can't display the full file names, just the first 8 or 10 characters if i remember right) and it is only accessible when playback is stopped, but it does fully support subfolders and more than 99 files per folder. 8)

Random mode only works inside one folder though, that's why i keep all my songs in one folder. They are almost 190, no problems here.
