I do not think it will help much because it needs to be on the encrypted drive.

I have just experimented with the disk tool and
the encrypyed drive can be removed by re-using the MP3 Disk Tool and moving the slider all the way to the left although you have already stated above that you have done this. If that is the case and you player still only shows 479MB then the problem may be that your player had a hacked memory chip 512MB not 2GB. When you set Partiton\Encrypt you repartitioned the drive which would have removed the memory hack and the chip is now reading it's real capacity.
