Does your player have a sample video file on there? If so, what file extension does it have? Is it a .AMV or .AVI video? Does that play in full screen? If it does, then you can go into the properties of that file and see what screen size it has been recorded in (if .AMV, you will have to use the AMV Player instead).
You know you said 220*176, but it's good to be certain.
If your player plays .AMV, then have you tried the latest version of the AMV Convert Tool? Try the various version of the MP3 Player Utilities -->
