Default Why do the players die in the first place?

My mp4 player died on me. It was working fine yesterday, and today whenever I turn it on all I see is the blue screen with hourglass.

All I could think of that I did was set the sleep timer. All the files in it were working fine, and I haven't exceeded the memory of the player (well, I think its actual memory is 1 g, but I put 498 mb in there). I don't know if the batteries ran out but I tried recharging it and the blue screen won't go away.

I have an "8 GB" ipod nano clone
Core: ACT 9x-0.43
FW: SRX-1.5c-001
both from 2006.

I will try the dead player recovery guide, but I want to know if my player will die at random or if there's something I can do to avoid it.

Any ideas??

Thanks
