dj_mooo , firstly ensure no other USB storage devices except your player are connected.

Right Click on My Computer and select Properties. Then select the Hardware tab, and click on Device Manager. In the list, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers, and look for USB Mass Storage Device (or in your case, might be Unknown USB Device, there might also be a yellow exclamation mark). Right click on it and select Uninstall.

These steps would allow your computer to uninstall the USB Device. Next, unplug your player and plug it in again. You computer should detect it as a new USB device and attempt to reinstall it.
