The music from the original NES and SNES ROMS play perfectly through either the headphones or the speaker.
And with regards to firmware backup, it's very very easy!! You just enter a specific mode (as mentioned in the review above) and then you can copy the f/w to your PC!! There are already plenty of programmers discussing modifications for this layer at the mp4nation forum:
