Mys Terri , what is the current firmware version installed? If you can't view it properly, perhaps you could recall it?

If it is an Actions chipset, perhaps a simple firmware extraction/repair/re-flash would fix the problem. If your player is almost to a year old, it might be likely that it could be using an ATJ2085 which would be supported by the tools for the above mentioned procedure.
