Husker , usually it is the settings that are lost if you turn off via the On/Off switch. Like the clock, some equaliser/volume settings, etc. Other than these, pretty much the firmware and music/video files stay in place. Just turn the player off first using the play button, then when it's off, switch it to off position.

i know the problem of the battery running low or flat, as i used to encounter it as well. i can fully charge it up before i leave in the morning, listen to music on the way to uni, turn it off (via play), and get a low battery by evening time.
