i know you said the usb cable is probably fire wire, but mine has a very small end and an end thats a normal usb. The small end is rectangular with the top left & right corners at a slant.

Also I found an Firmware extracter, which i don't know if it'll work, but once i get a new cable that works I will extract the firmware and reformat the player. The only thing is, How do you put the firmware back in the player?
