This is my third edit of this reply!
I didnt read all the mail.
Note to myself: READ ALL THE MAIL!
The firmware is in a protected memory space and is not visible. That is why you have to use the firmware downloading utility. Be sure to use the S1Clone tool as it is the only one capable of downloading the firmware file on 9.x.xx players!
It can get around the visibility issue and download the firmware. You still cannot see it on the Player but when the firmware file has been downloaded, you can see the saved file.
One player I have died. That is the one I am looking for the firmware for. I bought a new one from Chinavasion and it works flawlessly. Its a 4gb and I now have 3.7gb on it. I backed up the firmware on the unit. I did NOT format it.
A simple rule here is IF IT 'AINT BROKEN DON'T FIX IT!
I guess you can do the same. I have to admit that I did not try to reboot the unit by restoring the backup!
It will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour to perform the firmware dump.
There is another tool, I dont know much about it, its called MP3 Player Product Tools 4.19. Its supposedly what the professionals use. I think this is also available on this site. DO NOT USETHIS TOOL. I read on the video related section that this 4.19 is dangerous
