The AMV player is the original one for that format.
The file used is a straight MPEG1 Audio layer 2 which should convert.
FFMpeg shows the following:-
confuguration..enabling memalign hack ..enable gpl..enable liba52..enable libmp3lame..enable libxvid..enable libogg (can't read the rest)
crash
Not a bug in libavcodec..but in compiler.
and so on....
