I had the same problem after I updated my mp4 player with the wrong firmware. Then I updated with the original firmware and I had the same blue screen with a hourglass.
This worked for me: turn your mp4 on and leave it like this over the night until the battery is empty. The next day you will have to plug the usb cable in the computer and see if it works. You don't have to turn it off from the switch when the battery is empty and, if it works, when you plug the usb cable back into your computer you should see the blue screen and you should wait about 1-2 minutes.
