Default Slow navigation/strange folder-browsing bug?

Hello everyone.

I got a 2 gig iPod clone recently, a model very similar to this one:

Click the image to open in full size.

(I know that's a very vague attempt at an ID, but I don't have the player handy--I should be able to post more info when I get home.)

I noticed that, as I added music, folder navigation became slower and slower--and then this strange bug-like behavior reared its head.

What happens is this:

(song playing) > Pause > MENU > Local Folder

I'm shown the contents of the folder in which I'm 'standing'.

I highlight '\' and click MENU. That would leave me in the ROOT folder; my music files are arranged in folders, like so:

Code:
\
L__Beatles (1969) Abbey Road
L__Menudo (1987) Fall of the Post-Communist Regime
L__Rolling Stones (1972) Exile on Main St.
There's a rather HUGE delay when the player attempts to list the contents of the ROOT folder (all the other folders, that is); even worse, if I don't move the cursor up or down a few times as soon as they are displayed, the player goes back to the main playback screen.

So I have found a work-around of sorts, but it's still quite annoying.

I was wondering whether this is a known issue and, hopefully, whether it can be solved?

Thank you so much.
