Default Half Dead Player...

Hello, I'm new in the forum and the MP4s...Two weeks ago I bought a nobrand 4GB 2.8" TOUCH SCREEN MP4 player for my son. He played with it for a short time. 3 days ago he said that it went off after putting in some songs in it and unplugging it from the PC. Now it works half! If you plug it to the PC you can go into the player and put or delete whatever you want. If you plug it to the AC charger, it begins charging and at that time you can turn it on and use it properly. But when you unplug it either from the charger or the PC it goes off and no way to turn it on...I did a search at internet and I learned that it should not be upgraded. I asked my son if he upgraded it, he said "NO" but he may be lying, because he's interested in electronics and PC more than me.
Now the player is usable when plugged to the PC or tha AC charger, but without plugging it, it's useless. It's impossible to use it freely. When I plug it to the AC charger it begins, and after a few hours, finishes charging. When I opened the inside to check the connections of the battery, they seemed OK. But I don't know if ihe battery is dead. By the way the player had an opening screen as "MINI MP4 PLAYER", and aclosing screen as " GOODBYE" , but now they've dissapeared. When plugged to the charger I can turn it on, but I can't off!...
Does any of you has any idea about this problem? Is it a hardware or a software problem? I will be very appreciated if there's a solution...
