Hi - first posting on this (very informative) site !
I too got one of these 8Gb touch screen units and had the same problems. Its a nice little unit but the manual is garbage. Mine came with Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter 3 which seems a good application, but you need to set the parameters up - after a lot of fiddling I found these worked

Bit rate: 341kbps

Format: mpeg4
Size: 320x240
Frame rate: 24.00fps
Audio:
Format: mp2
Bit rate: 64kbps
Sample rate: 44100Hz
Channels: Stereo
You may need to tweak them a bit. I am going to try the ViDrop app next !
